Men’s fashion has been undergoing significant changes in recent years, particularly in the fabrics used to create clothing. Innovative, technical fabrics with hi-tech fibers are becoming increasingly popular. This year’s Pitti Uomo showcased models wearing easy and casual fashion characterized by lightweight, comfortable, and breathable fabrics. Fashion is reflecting the changing lifestyle and new clothing needs of men.

Technical Fabrics and Men's Fashion: A Winning Combination Even for Formal Looks

To meet these new requirements, men’s fashion is focusing on researching technical fabrics that have a contemporary aesthetic in line with both casual and formal male fashion. These fabrics should be easy-care, preferably wrinkle-free and washable in water. They should also be easy-living, meaning comfortable, elastic, highly breathable, quick-drying, and resistant to creasing. In essence, they should align with the modern lifestyle of contemporary men, offering comfort without requiring excessive attention.

The design of men’s clothing is closely linked to technical innovation, creating a new style of clothing that transitions from formal to neo-formal.

At Pitti Uomo Spring-Summer 2023, in line with this macro-trend, functional garments made from highly technological materials were presented, emphasizing practicality. The characteristics of these garments draw inspiration from the outdoors and long journeys, including extra-lightweight and windproof waterproof garments, antibacterial properties, and high breathability.

One notable example is the outerwear, which was showcased in a new interpretation using innovative fabrics, multifunctional pockets, and customized zippers. These garments were paired with unexpected combinations to maximize comfort. Bermuda shorts and joggers completed these outfits.

This revolutionary style also extends to natural fibers that are made technical, contemporary, and versatile through blends of cotton and polyamide. Polyamide, in particular, is used to provide garments with enhanced technical qualities, such as no-iron properties and quick-drying capabilities, as seen in “no-iron” shirts.

The Future of Men’s Fashion: Carvico’s Revolutional™

Anticipating this trend, Carvico and Jersey Lomellina fabrics, traditionally known for swimwear and sports, have become the protagonists of the new “Couture Collection – Special Edition.” These technical fabrics are offered in color ranges suitable for the fashion industry but, more importantly, they bring new values. Through their use, it’s possible to reinterpret classic formal clothing lines, making them modern and functional.

Among all of Carvico’s fabrics, the perfect one for this purpose – and the most commonly used – is Revolutional™. It’s an ultra-thin, lightweight, cutting-edge technical fabric covered by two international patents – one for innovative construction and one for the production process. Its technical characteristics make it even more versatile: it’s comfortable thanks to its “4-way stretch” elasticity, lightweight yet compact, breathable, quick-drying, wear-resistant (no pilling or abrasion), maintains its shape, and doesn’t require ironing.

Choosing Revolutional™ allows for the creation of pants, jackets, outerwear, and coats that gain new functionality, blending aesthetic appeal with tactile pleasure. This way, the typical properties of sportswear fabrics are applied to the new urban wear, giving it a contemporary look and competitive performance.

Furthermore, Revolutional™ patents don’t only pertain to innovation in manufacturing but also to sustainable production processes. This fabric, like all others in Carvico and Jersey Lomellina’s clothing line, carries the GRS (Global Recycle Standard) certification, promoted by Textile Exchange, one of the most important international non-profit organizations dedicated to responsible and sustainable development in the textile industry.
